Amie Siegel, whose 2022 work The Silence is currently on view at ArkDes, will be in conversation with Theodor Ringborg on 6 October at 6 pm.
Amie Siegel (b. 1974, Chicago, USA) is a New York-based artist working variously in film, video, photography, sound, sculpture, and installation.
Siegel is known for her meticulously constructed works that trace and perform systems of value, examine relationships between objects and spaces, and expose the plasticity of the moving image through sound and performance. Her compelling, multi-layered approach often reveals new meaning in narrativizing systems of power and economic structures as it examines the very aesthetics and mechanisms of image and sound production.
A double-screen video installation composed of two alternating segments —each performed and filmed in churches designed by Sigurd Lewerentz: St. Mark’s in Stockholm and St. Peter’s in Klippan —The Silence considers the relationship between architecture, music, sound and the immaterial. The Silence (2022) is Siegel’s first work made and exhibited in Sweden.
Amie Siegel’s work is featured in international museum collections and has been widely exhibited around the globe. The artist’s recent works include Asterisms (2021), exhibited at the 34th São Paulo Biennial, Brazil and Bloodlines (2022), recently on display at the Scottish National Museum Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh and Thomas Dane Gallery, London.

Amie Siegel (född 1974 i Chicago, USA) är en New York-baserad konstnär som arbetar med bland annat film, video, fotografering, ljud, skulptur och installation.
Siegel är känd för sina minutiöst genomarbetade verk som blottlägger och gestaltar värdesystem, undersöker relationer mellan objekt och omgivning och synliggör den rörliga bildens formbarhet genom ljud och performance. Med sitt övertygande och mångbottnade angreppssätt klargör Siegel grunderna för samhällets maktstrukturer, samtidigt som hon arbetar undersökande med estetiken och mekanismerna i bild- och ljudproduktion.
The Silence består av två alternerande videoinstallationer – utförda och filmade i kyrkor ritade av Sigurd Lewerentz under tidigt 60-tal (Markuskyrkan i Stockholm och Sankt Petri kyrka i Klippan) – och reflekterar över förhållandet mellan arkitektur, material, musik och ljud. The Silence (2022) är Siegels första beställningsverk som skapas och ställs ut i Sverige.
Amie Siegels verk finns representerade i flera internationella museisamlingar och visas ofta i utställningar världen över. Förutom The Silence omfattar hennes senaste verk bland annat Asterisms (2021), som visats på 34:e Bienal de São Paulo, och Bloodlines
(2022), som nyligen visades på Scottish National Museum Gallery of Modern Art i Edinburgh och Thomas Dane Gallery i London.
